Office Hours:   7:30am-5:00pm Monday – Thursday – We do NOT close for lunch.

ONLINE Services are available – see below.

Services include, register your vehicles (bring proof of insurance); register ATVs, snowmobiles, boats, trailers, dogs, register to vote, purchase transfer station punch cards, pay your taxes, obtain a building permit, get hunting and fishing licenses, or obtain certified copies of vital statistics.  Town accepts payments via debit/credit cards, cash or check.


Transfer Station is located on Route 183/Tunk Lake Road, Sullivan

Open 10am-3pm Saturdays & Sundays year-round.

Household waste:  We have a pay by bag system:  the fee is $1.50/bag up to 25 pounds.

You must purchase stickers or punch cards before going to the transfer station — $1.50/each at the town office, or by mail.

Stickers are also available for $1.75/each at The Dunbar Store or Hancock Grocery.

Bulk waste or demolition debris

This must be paid for at the town office BEFORE taking your paid receipt and bulk trash to the transfer station.


Our tax year is July 1 to June 30.  Tax bills are mailed out only once per year in late September or early October.  Interest starts accruing in 120 days.  

An eight-month Tax Club is available for those taxpayer’s current on their real estate taxes.

ONLINE Rapid Renewal of your vehicle registration:

  • Vehicle excise tax and registration expire annually per your registration.
  • motorcycles expire 3/31 each year (except antiques).
  • trailers can be registered for 1 or 2 years (same month),
  • trailers 2000 pounds or greater expire in February (1 or 2 years),

Marriage Licenses and Certified Copies of Birth, Death or Marriage Certificates:  

Please call ahead as this service is online and takes time.  

You may stop in anytime to pick up your “Marriage Intentions Form” or download here VS2-A; take it home to fill it out.  

  • Bring this completed form with you, along with all required documents and fee of $40.00.  
  • Both parties will need to appear at the office (together or separately) for the marriage license.
