Sullivan, Maine
2025-35 Comprehensive Plan
VIEW THE COMP PLAN HERE
On November 4, 2025, the town voted to adopt the updated Comprehensive Plan that we worked on as a community.
Thank you to everyone who assisted the committee over the months to bring the updated plan together.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan is a guidance document for the purpose of maintaining a
balance between development, culture, equity, and community within a town.
Topics addressed in a Comprehensive Plan generally include –
Housing needs
Economic opportunity
Open spaces and natural resources
Historic and cultural resources
Marine resources
Transportation
Future land use
A plan is a roadmap for the future,
and while it may suggest ordinances or mandates,
it ultimately has no authoritative power.
Why Did Sullivan Update their Comprehensive Plan?
3 Major Reasons for Having an Updated Comprehensive Plan:
* Eligibility for federal, state, local, and private funding
* Implementing zoning ordinances above state requirements
* Planning for your town’s future.
